The Trump administration is finding a creative way to defund Planned Parenthood. Last week the administration filed a final rule aimed at breaking the tie between Title X Family Planning grants and any programs or organizations that perform abortions or provide abortion referrals.
With one swift move, the administration made it clear that abortion services were not deemed family planning nor healthcare. This will definitely affect Planned Parenthood’s bottom line by as much as $60 million. While this is bad news for organizations that kill babies, it is great news for pregnancy care centers that believe in preserving lives and that want to help low-income women get the care they need.
The final rule will become effective 60 days after being published in the Federal Register. Organizations receiving Title X funding have 120 days to financially separate their family planning and abortion operations and one year to physically separate their family planning and abortion operations.
The rule will likely be challenged by abortion activists.
