Defense Department Stops Using SPLC’s ‘Hate Group’ List

The Department of Defense (DOD) once used the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as a resource for “hate groups” in its training materials to fight hate crimes. But not anymore, based on emails obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. According to an email from Brian J. Field, assistant U.S. attorney from the Civil Division, “all references to the SPLC have been removed from any current training” used by the DOD.

The SPLC still labels Alliance Defending Freedom, American Family Association, Family Research Council, and Liberty Counsel as “SPLC Designated Hate Groups,” mixing these pro-family groups in with the Ku Klux Klan and other similar organizations.

Conservative Groups Respond to SPLC’s ‘Hit List’

Conservative leaders from Alliance Defending Freedom, American Family Association, Family Research Council, Heritage Foundation, Liberty Counsel, and Wallbuilders were part of a total of 47 individuals and groups that signed an open letter to the mainstream media calling on them to stop using information from the Southern Poverty Law Center’s so-called “hate group” list.

“All reputable news organizations should immediately stop using the SPLC descriptions of individuals and organizations based on the SPLC’s obvious political prejudices,” wrote the group in the open letter released on Wednesday.

Perpetrators of both a planned attack at Family Research Council years ago and the shooting of Rep. Scalise and other Republicans at a baseball game practice in June referenced SPLC’s ‘hate” list. Both Liberty Counsel and D. James Kennedy Ministries have gone to court over SPLC’s charge they are “hate” organizations.

The letter continues, “The SPLC is a discredited, left-wing, political activist organization that seeks to silence its political opponents with a ‘hate group’ label of its own invention and application that is not only false and defamatory, but that also endangers the lives of those targeted with it.”

Apple Gives Money to Southern Poverty Law Center in Response to Charlottesville Protest

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, donated $1 million to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the same organization that has condemned many conservative, pro-family organizations like Family Research Council and Alliance Defending Freedom as “hate groups,” and to the Anti-Defamation League. Apple employees who donate to these two organizations and to other human rights groups from now until September 30 will have their funds matched two-to-one by the tech giant. Apple also promises to give iTunes users a way to donate to SPLC.

While Apple and its supporters believe they are fighting back against the violence recently displayed in Charlottesville and other cities, in actuality, they are promoting a hate-filled agenda against Christians and social conservatives, whom they put in the same category as Nazis and White Supremacists.

SPLC Flags Key Nonprofits as Hate Groups

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has teamed up with GuideStar, an organization that rates the credibility and value of a nonprofit, to flag nonprofits it deems hateful.

The SPLC logo and link to its website now appear at the top of GuideStar’s review of each entity that SPLC deems a hate group, along with a statement that the organization was flagged as such by SPLC. Pro-family organizations ADF, AFA, FRC, and Liberty Counsel are grouped together with the Ku Klux Klan, the Nation of Islam, Westboro Baptist Church, and the New Black Panthers.

Of course, anything anti-LGBT is considered an automatic hate-mongering ideology. Incidentally, FACT was included in SPLC’s “Anti-LGBT Roundup of Events and Activities 6-12-17” for its biblically-based positions before the Legislature and courts on LGBT issues.
