National Science Foundation Funds Gender Identity Study for 4-Year-Olds

The National Science Foundation awarded a grant of $138,000 to the University of Washington for a two-year study of 250 children age 4-6, along with their parents, about gender identity. The study will look at what NSF considers early gender socialization, children’s gendered behavior, children’s gender cognition, and children’s “internal sense of gender identity.” The study is being led by researchers Kristina Olson and Selin Gülgöz, who are also involved with the University of Washington’s TransYouth Project, a “longitudinal study of transgender and gender diverse youth.”

From the sound of it, the federal funding is going toward an already biased research project, and one seriously wonders whether the results from this study are going to be used to propagandize preschoolers in the future.
