Thanks to a lawsuit from Freedom From Religion Foundation and the American Humanist Association, a giant cross at Bayview Park in Pensacola, Fla., erected in 1941 and replaced with the newer “Latin” cross in 1969, must be removed within 30 days. It was deemed an unconstitutional endorsement of the Christian religion on governmental property.
Interestingly, District Judge Vinson, who decided this case, said, “The historical record indicates that the Founding Fathers did not intend for the Establishment Clause to ban crosses and religious symbols from public property.” But, he said, U.S. Supreme Court precedent now required removal of the cross.
FOX News columnist Todd Starnes wonders just how far the Far Left will go to take God out of our country. He asks, “Will they demand that city leaders rename Los Angeles and San Francisco? Should The Ten Commandments be chiseled off the doors of the Supreme Court? Should references to God be sandblasted from our national monuments?”
