Homosexual Coffeeshop Owner Kicks Out Christians

Last week a homosexual coffee shop owner in Seattle kicked out Christians who were distributing religious pamphlets.

“I am gay. You have to leave. This is offensive to me. I own the place. I have the right to be offended,” said the owner of Bedlam Coffee in a video posted on Facebook by Abolish Human Abortion.

While the ACLU has represented many LGBT clients who alleged to having been denied services because of their sexual orientation, the ACLU has remained silent on the rights of these Christians even after multiple requests for comment from the independent news outlet The Daily Caller News Foundation.

NC ‘Transgenders’ Could Use Bathroom of Choice If Settlement Signed

The North Carolina Legislature voted last March to repeal HB 2, which limited bathroom usage in the state based on one’s biological sex in order to address economic boycotts against the state. In its place, the Legislature passed HB 142, which gave the General Assembly the power to regulate access to “multiple-occupancy restrooms, showers, or changing facilities” in the state. But the ACLU, ACLU of North Carolina, and Lambda Legal brought a lawsuit claiming that HB 142 didn’t protect the bathroom usage for “transgenders” in public facilities.

They, along with North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, have developed a consent decree settlement this week that, if approved by the court, will allow “transgenders” to use the public restrooms matching their gender identity. The General Assembly, which is a party to the lawsuit, did not agree to the settlement and may file an objection.

Gov. Cooper also signed an executive order on Wednesday that bars discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity of state government employees.

ACLU Sues Federal Government to Sell Abortion Drugs Over the Counter

Hawaiian abortion activist Dr. Graham Chelius is suing the FDA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services with the ACLU’s help to loosen current rules designed to protect women through restrictions in connection with the distribution of the abortion drug, RU-486. Instead of making the abortifacient available only through certified providers at medical facilities, Chelius contends that the drug should be available in every American pharmacy. But pro-lifers believe that such a change is irresponsible because women who take the drug to induce a chemical abortion could suffer consequences that only a medical professional could remedy.

“If they [abortion drugs] are mishandled, they result in serious injury. To just distribute them and put them in an automatic dispenser like a can of soda is absolutely medical malpractice,” Americans United for Life spokeswoman Kristi Hamrick told the Washington Post earlier this year.

Michigan Faith-Based Adoption Placement Agencies Attacked by ACLU

The ACLU has filed a lawsuit in federal court against the state of Michigan challenging the state’s law that allows faith-based foster care and adoption placement agencies to operate according to their biblical convictions and not place children with same-sex couples.

Apparently, both Bethany Christian Services and Catholic Charities, which are not defendants in the case, were named as two agencies that turned away two “married” lesbian couples who were trying to adopt children. The ACLU maintains that not allowing children to be placed with same-sex couples would reduce the amount of available foster parents, but the law’s supporters suggest that it would be the reduction of faith-based organizations that would actually reduce availability.

While Michigan prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, it does provide an exception for religious agencies.

The results of this lawsuit could set precedent for other states. If the ACLU wins, that could force faith-based agencies to close. And if the state wins, that’s great news for other states that want to keep running their organizations on biblical principles.

Challenge to TN Abortion Waiting Period Law Proceeds in Court

All nine abortion clinics in Tennessee, in addition to the ACLU, are moving forward with a challenge to the 2015 law requiring women seeking abortions to get in-person counseling from a doctor and then wait at least 48 hours before returning for the procedure. Both sides filed additional arguments last week. The point of the law is to help pregnant women make a more informed decision about the baby in the womb with the hopes that some women would choose life over an abortion. Currently, 27 states have waiting period laws and of those states, 14 require in-person counseling.
