BILL

Senate Bill 0284
Amendments: None
Sponsor(s): Bell in the Senate

SUMMARY

As introduced, requires appellate judges be retained by 75 percent of persons voting rather than by a majority of voters. – Amends TCA Title 17, Chapter 4, Part 1.

STATUS

Senate:  Withdrawn on 2/7/2011.

FACT’S ANALYSIS

Under current law a judge is “retained” under our current uncontested retention election process by a simple majority of the vote; this bill would require that 75% of the votes be in favor of retention.
