Nevada Church Banned From Distributing Flyers

Through a letter, lawyers with First Liberty Institute and Michigan-based law firm Lipson Neilson are trying to reverse a decision made by Lyon County School District in Yerington, Nev., that bars Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley from distributing flyers about its extracurricular activities and events because they are religious in nature.

While the church is clearly being discriminated against, the other community organizations in the district are allowed to distribute flyers about any event or activity they wish to publicize. “The First Amendment requires school districts to be neutral toward religion. They may not single out a church’s flyers for censorship, and they may not force the church to scrub the flyers of any religious language. That is hostility toward religion,” said Stephanie Taub, counsel for First Liberty.”
