Alabama Senate candidate Judge Roy Moore recently said, “This is an awful moment for our country. Should I keep back my opinions in such a time as this, I would consider myself guilty of treason toward my country and an act of disloyalty toward the majesty of heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.”
Other politicians may believe that, but Moore said it—that there is a “majesty of heaven” to be revered and that he will not bow before any who would seek to ascend to that high place.
However, today we want our rulers to leave God out of their political thinking, but if that’s what we want, then we should remember what William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, said: “If we will not be governed by God, we must be governed by tyrants.”
