Tennessee’s General Assembly has been roiled in controversy for two weeks over publicly disclosed sexually explicit text messages between House Speaker Glen Casada and his Chief of Staff a couple of years ago.
The Speaker’s initial response was to pass them off as “locker room talk.” But then Democrats called for his resignation as Speaker, and now the Republican caucus plans to meet to discuss what to do.
In response to these actions, the Speaker listed certain institutional steps he would take to avoid such “missteps” in the future. But were his thoughts “missteps” that can be corrected by implementing institutional changes? And, for Christian caucus members, is “locker room” talk a sufficient justification for believing he is not the same person today as he was then?
