Isaiah said Jesus would be the “Prince of peace,” but Jesus said, “I did not come to bring peace but a sword.” Is this a contradiction?
No, Jesus does bring peace between God and human beings, but between human beings, that’s the overlooked part of the Christmas story.
In Jesus, the second of the three persons who makes up the Triune God takes on a second nature—a human one. He becomes, in the words of Paul, the last Adam and the second man, creating nothing less than a new “head” of the human race.
But saying that the human race is not fine as it is and needs a Savior is offensive to the First Adam’s descendants. To them, the Christmas story will be a call to arms until God’s love conquers their hearts and minds.
