With today’s talk about socialism and the use of so-called “non-discrimination” laws to compel interactions in commerce and even within organizations, you can’t help but see a future America that is rife with legal compulsion.
You also can’t help but think of Abraham Lincoln’s resolve expressed at Gettysburg that “this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.”
But did you know that more than four hundred years earlier protestant reformer John Wycliffe said much the same: “The Bible is for the government of the people, by the people and for the people”?
The point is this: Compulsion will define our future unless there is a new birth of liberty under God in America.
