The Dangers of Puberty Blockers in Children

The number of pediatric gender clinics pushing puberty blocking to prevent suicides in children suffering from gender dysphoria has been expanding the past ten years, but new research by three medical experts published in The New Atlantis shows this “fix” does more harm than good.

The reality is that 80 to 95 percent of children with gender dysphoria will come to identify with and embrace their bodily sex if they are allowed to develop naturally. Children who take puberty blockers run the risk of not developing normally once puberty is allowed to resume, and are at risk for conditions such as high blood pressure, liver disease, and cardiovascular disease. The report reflects that 41 percent of those identifying as “transgender” will attempt suicide at some point in their life and those who have had transition surgery are 19 times more likely than average to die by suicide than other people. So, these trans-affirming solutions can not only cause major health issues, but can also lead to self-inflicted death, which everyone in the debate, including the liberals who advocate for this treatment, wants to prevent.
