The Ontario Legislative Assembly last week passed Bill 89, which will give the government the power in alleged cases of child abuse to take a child away from his or her family if the parents don’t accept their child’s gender identity.
Specifically, the law requires consideration of “gender identity” and “gender expression” when determining “the best interests of the child.” It also removes the parents’ religious faith from the list of factors that could be considered in evaluating the parents’ decisions and actions. If parents disapprove of their child cross-dressing, being called a different sex, or undergoing transitioning, then their child could be removed from the home and placed in protective custody.
The new law will not only affect biological parents who wish to teach their children God’s view of biologically based sex, but will also affect a couple’s ability to adopt and/or qualify as foster parents.
