Last week, the Tennessee House overwhelming passed a bill that would allow the state to pay the cost of a local school district having to defend a lawsuit brought by legal organizations such as the ACLU because the district had chosen to protect a student’s bodily privacy by designating use of common locker room facilities based on the biology of its students, not their gender identity.
But in the Senate, Speaker Randy McNally worked with the bill’s opponents to put it off until next year.
Now, why would Speaker McNally put off protecting local schools that respect the bodily privacy of boys and girls? Let’s hope it wasn’t because of pressure from the Tennessee Titans, Amazon, and other corporate giants who said it would hurt their businesses. Because neither our values nor our children should be for sale.
