GLAAD Isn’t Happy With TN Bill

After weeks of wrangling, on Thursday the full Tennessee Senate passed SB 127 by a vote of 25-5. The bill provides that state officials and local governments cannot discriminate against a business because they do or do not like a business’ personnel and employee benefit policies relative to issues like health insurance coverage and non-discrimination policies if those policies otherwise comply with state and federal law. Somehow the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) said the bill, expressly prohibiting discrimination, is a “license to discriminate.” The bill now moves to the House State Government Subcommittee (as HB 54).

Target’s Revenue Falls Dramatically Fourth Quarter

Target reported a 43-percent decline in net earnings for their fourth quarter and their stock has hit a two-year low, yet the company refuses to admit that part of the reason for the plummeting sales could be due to the boycott over the retail chain’s bathroom and changing room policy that disregards the privacy and safety of women and children. This goes to show the importance of citizens promoting their values with their wallets.

New Creationism Movie Challenges Evolution

The new documentary Is Genesis History? from Del Tackett of The Truth Project did so well recently, the film has one more encore event next Tuesday night, March 7, at select theaters in Tennessee. The film, produced by a company in Franklin, Tenn., challenges the “old earth” perspective of evolution by presenting scientific evidence from various scientists that supports the view that the creation account in the Bible is the recordation of actual history and the earth is only several thousand years old.

40 Days for Life Begins

More than 200,000 prayer volunteers with 40 Days for Life will stand and pray outside abortion clinics and hospitals in 340 cities and 30 countries from Ash Wednesday through April 9, and we need to be praying for this worldwide right-to-life effort. As Shawn Carney, the president of 40 Days for Life, explains, “The hatred of Donald Trump is being directed at the pro-life movement. The climate is much more hostile to our movement.” The good news is that so far, 83 abortion facilities have closed their doors after 40 Days vigils were held.

Tennessee Senators Vote for Travel Ban Resolution

Tuesday six legislators from the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee, including Sen. Thelma Harper (D-Nashville), voted in favor of Senate Joint Resolution 111 sponsored by Sen. Mike Bell (R-Riceville) that urges state officials to consider banning state-sponsored travel to states that have banned such travel to Tennessee. The resolution is an attempt to discourage California and other like-minded states from banning travel based on whether they like Tennessee’s public policies. California’s statutory travel ban came as a result of last year’s counselor’s bill that FACT tracked. The resolution will be before the full Senate next week.
