Instead of putting it up for an official vote in Parliament or holding a referendum, the government of Australia is going to the public on the issue of same-sex “marriage” through a nonbinding, non-compulsory postal mail survey. The “vote” done by a mailed survey might not be legal or constitutional and it will cost about $100 million, but some are hoping the information gleaned can be used to sway an official parliamentary vote in the near future.
