Alaska’s Bathroom Privacy Measure on 2018 Ballot

Through the Protect Our Privacy Initiative, Alaska Family Action garnered close to 8,500 signatures, thousands more than required to get the pro-woman bathroom privacy measure on the 2018 ballot. The Protect Our Privacy Initiative, if passed, will protect the dignity and safety of women and girls in restrooms, locker rooms, and showers by separating these facilities based on biological sex rather than some perceived gender identity. Currently, the city of Anchorage allows patrons to choose the bathroom of their choice. Advocates hope the privacy measure will soften the city’s SOGI laws and protect those whose rights have been violated by the city’s so-called nondiscrimination ordinance.
