SUMMARY

Proposes a constitutional amendment to provide for gubernatorial appointment of the judges of the supreme court, court of appeals and court of criminal appeals, subject to confirmation by majority vote of the senate.

STATUS

Senate:  Recommended for passage as amended on 3/27/2012. Referred to the Finance, Ways and Means Committee.

FACT’S ANALYSIS

The resolution proposes a constitutional amendment calling for appellate court judges to be appointed by the Governor subject to appointment by a majority of the members of the Senate.  No contested or retention election.
