Political Internship

The political intern would help The Family Action Council of Tennessee (FACT) and Family Action of Tennessee fulfill its role with respect to monitoring, researching, developing, and advocating public policies consistent with a biblical worldview. It is FACT’s objective to provide opportunities for significant and substantial responsibilities that provide marketable workplace experience and, where a physical presence in Nashville is possible, to provide exposure to a professional work environment to aid in the development of the intern’s professional deportment.

The number of hours committed to the internship per week is negotiable based on the number of academic credit hours the student is to earn.

Specifically, this internship would include such responsibilities as:

  • Attending or monitoring by video streaming state House and Senate Committee meetings (during the spring semester primarily) for the purpose of:

    • Monitoring the debate for positions of the members and questions and issues that need to be addressed (this can be done in person or by video streaming).

    • Preparing updates to FACT’s President or his designee on the committee meetings.

    • Noting debates, comments, and questions that reflect the presence or absence of a biblical worldview for the use in Web page video clips and commentary by FACT through Family Action News, The FACT Report, editorials, etc.

  • Researching answers to questions and issues raised by legislative members in response to legislation on Family Action’s legislative agenda.

  • Research in connection with the preparation of Family Action’s legislative agenda.

  • Working with the communications intern to provide information needed to communicate FACT’s position on policy issues to the public, including but not limited to bulletin inserts for FACT’s church contacts, The FACT Report, and Legislator Fact Sheets.

  • Assisting the President or his designee in polling legislators for their position on Family Action’s legislative agenda.

  • Assisting in the preparation for and conduct of events sponsored by FACT such as Ministers’ Day on the Hill, Taking the Hill (one-day high school senior internship for qualified applicants), etc.

  • Assisting the President in connection with seminars and conferences at which he is speaking.

  • Routine office responsibilities and other tasks, as directed.
