Using the word “adult” as a verb is becoming popular with millennials. The word is being used by them in general conversation to indicate they are taking on adult responsibilities, as in “I am adulting by paying my own bills.”
Breakpoint’s John Stonestreet thinks that millennials created the term as a way to earn recognition from peers for taking on responsibility, something that past generations did not need to do. And, apparently, some millennials need a way to tout the fact they’re finally acting like adults.
