Ann Coulter’s speech at the University of California at Berkeley was canceled when the sponsoring organization, Young America’s Foundation, pulled its sponsorship of the event.
Before doing so, Young America’s Foundation threatened to file a lawsuit to protect its right to bring speakers onto campus. But violent threats forced the organization to drop the defense of its legal rights.
After the event was canceled, the ACLU said it supported Coulter’s right to speak on campus. Is anyone surprised that the ACLU didn’t threaten to sue before the cancellation to protect Coulter’s right to speak? Does anyone want to bet on whether the ACLU would have sued if a conservative public college (an oxymoron) had canceled a liberal speaker’s invitation?
